This set was designed to feature instrumental, choral, and dance performances, as well as fit the show’s prison setting. I placed the Glee Club Band on an elevated platform to create multiple levels of visual interest, set their equipment in one place for the entire show, and produce an auditory separation between the band and choir. The design includes a brick tower on each side, which hides two large props and provides space for quick changes. I aimed to include elements of a prison through the metallic bars, watchtowers, and bricks, as well as abstraction to blend into other settings. I also used the set’s negative space to create a silhouetted look reminiscent of the murder-mystery genre.
